1. What’s the most impactful thing or activity a patient can do to improve their health?

The Chiropractors:

“Decide that you can be healthier and then start taking steps to make it happen. I think we all know at least one thing we can do to start moving towards better health, but we tend to make excuses. “It’s too late for me” or “It’s too much work” starts to rattle around your brain. Don’t do it! Making the decision to change is hard, but once you do it, you can start making progress.”

“Regular exercise. It seems like everyone these days sits behind a computer for 8+ hours per day. Our bodies were not designed for this. Adding in regular cardiovascular exercise, like running, biking, or the elliptical machine, is great for your heart. Strengthening and range of motion exercises help make sure our muscles and joints stay strong and mobile, and helps counter act all of the sitting we tend to do. A combination of these three types of exercise should be performed for an hour, at least three times per week.”

“Become proactive. Work on improving your health every day of your life, not just when you are in pain, have a symptom, or feel like your out of shape.”

“Assume personal responsibility. That means be thoughtful and engaged in one’s health knowing nobody should care about them more than they do. Great healthy patients watch their weight, keep appointments, avoid dangerous drugs and medications.”

“Next to keeping their spine subluxation free, improving their diet. People are constantly poisoning their body and wonder why they are having trouble healing.”

“Besides having a highly functioning nervous system my firm belief is that educating patients about proper nutritional principals is paramount for improving ones health. Good nutrition allows our bodies to be healthy, function well and provides nourishment for a quality lifestyle.

Nutrition goes much deeper then having an awareness about carbohydrates, fat and protein but needs to encompass all aspects of food including macronutrients, micronutrients, specific types of fat, cholesterol and more. Not all nutritional approaches such as Paleo, the Atkin’s diet, Fasting and others are appropriate for everyone. Therefore it is important to have great understanding about different approaches and how to best apply them to your lifestyle.”

2. What’s the most impactful thing or activity a patient can do to get the most from their chiropractic care?

Dr. Philip Cordova: “Patients are used to going to the doctor, receiving a pill, and their only responsibility is to take that pill until it runs out. Effective chiropractic care requires your participation and a lot of patients aren’t ready for that. This means showing up for your appointments, staying consistent with any recommended home care exercises, and communicating with your chiropractor about any challenges and your response to care.”

Dr. Kevin Wafer: “Consistency. You have to stay on the treatment plan designed by your chiropractor. The vast majority of patients I see that don’t respond as fast, or as well, as they would like to chiropractic care, don’t follow their treatment plan and come in whenever is convenient for them.

As much as I would love to adjust everyone once or twice and fix all of their problems, chiropractic just doesn’t work that way. Since every adjustment builds on itself, missing appointments is the easiest way to slow down or even stop your chiropractic care from working. ”

Dr. Tabor Smith: “Understand the concept of spinal health & hygiene. Spinal health and hygiene is something we should be maintaining for the rest of our lives. Whether it’s daily spinal exercises, or regular Chiropractic checkups, spinal health is not just something you do when your back hurts. Can you imagine if we took that approach with our teeth? Would you only brush your teeth when they hurt?

Just like any other part of the body, the spine must be taken care of to prevent degeneration and decay. The big difference between your spine and your teeth, is that your spine protects your nervous system, the one system that controls everything in your body. Obviously, it’s very important to maintain good spinal health and hygiene.”

Dr. Phillip Kriss: “Keep appointments. Do recommended exercises (if appropriate) Participate in their health care by asking good questions and being clear and certian about treatment goals and what they need to do to make it happen….then, just do it!”

Dr. Stanley Dombroski: “Show up! If they do not show up we cannot help. To help them show up would be to schedule all appointments at the beginning of care so care becomes part of their schedule as opposed to ‘something else to squeeze it.'”

Dr. James Allen: “Listen and implement the specific recommendations and care advice that your Chiropractor gives you! If you truly want to get the most out of your spinal care than its important to commit to it. Many Chiropractors provide tailored advice outside of their spinal adjusting with the aim of improving biomechanics, enhancing flexibility, mobility, strength and more. Complete your exercises and more because when it comes to completing a re-assessment or looking at yourself in the mirror the changes will totally blow your mind.”
