Am I Standing Straight?

The function of the human body relies greatly on balance just like any structure. Your house, car, and building where you work all depend on its foundation to be even and strong in order for it to stay upright and function smoothly. Without a level base, disaster can and will eventually occur to the rest of the structure if it’s left unbalanced.

Unleveled structures cause chaos!!

Let’s say for instance we discuss the cozy home you’re staying in. When it was built, the concrete slab (foundation) was based sturdily and leveled thoroughly to ensure that there was no chance of collapse and that there were no uneven surfaces. The walls and roof of the house rely solely on a level foundation to allow for proper function.

Now imagine living in a home were the walls are leaning and is roof tilting. Doesn’t feel safe does it? Soon or later the walls will start to crack, the doors won’t open/close properly, windows won’t open/close correctly and one day the big bad wolf will huff and puff and the house will fall down.

Ever look in the mirror and think you are crooked?

In the human body the structure relies upon for balance of the pelvis. The pelvis is the region that sits between the trunk of the body and the lower extremities. It consists of two hip bones, sacrum, and the coccyx. The upper body and spine sits atop of the pelvis and the legs fit into the pelvis appearing as a ball fitting into a socket.

Why am I hurting?

An unleveled pelvis called pelvic tilt, creates chaos in the body due to uneven stress to the right and left sides of the body. For example, if the pelvis is tilting down to the right, the spine will inturn tilt to the right creating a curvature and multiple misalignments in the spine causing pain and dysfunction. That same right, downward tilt affects the lower body as well by causing that right leg to likely be longer than the left. In the legs this imbalance creates more pressure into the right knee and ankle compared to the left.

Treatments that work

In my clinical experiences, low back pain, upper back pain, foot/ankle issues and knee problems are sometimes directly been caused by an imbalanced and unleveled pelvis. Chiropractic adjustments are the most effective treatment to level the pelvis. Other treatments in cohorts with adjustments such as stretching/strengthening exercises, postural exercises, and/or tailored orthotics can be implemented to help.

Whether you’re a gym rat, athlete, office worker, plumber, or a busy housewife, your body’s balance is vital for your everyday activity. Imagine one side of your body taking too much pressure throughout you work/workout, while the other side grows weaker. Improve your function by getting your posture checked. Maximize your workout or play in the gym, on the court or field by getting the most out of a healthy balanced body.
