In March, Dr. Cordova and I attended a chiropractic seminar in Southern California. In addition to hearing some great chiropractors speak about their practices, the seminar also included a number of nutritionists. Although I am usually not a fan of hearing about the latest fad diet, one nutritionist, J.J. Virgin, really caught my attention. Her presentation discussed a diet that she had recently created, the Sugar Impact Diet.
The central theme of the diet revolves around removing sugar from our diets. Since sugar is used by our bodies as the primary source of energy, by eliminating it from the diet, we are able to convert our body from sugar burning into fat burning. This allows us to lose more weight in fat, and also targets belly fat. In addition to the benefits of weight loss, Ms. Virgin also discussed how those who stuck to the diet had more energy, slept better and noticed a decrease in inflammation.
Since I have never had much of a sweet tooth, I didn’t think that I was really consuming that much sugar. I didn’t realize how much sugar was hidden in the foods that we eat every day! Almost anything that we eat from a package contains large amounts of sugar.
Although I was not looking to lose weight, the diet made sense to me. I have never been someone who sleeps well, even as a child. A normal night for me involved waking up at least five times a night. So, I decided to give the diet a try.
The diet breaks foods into three different categories: low, medium and high sugar impact. During the first two weeks, you cut out all high sugar impact foods. During the next two weeks, you only consume low sugar impact foods. After this, you gradually add back in medium impact foods. For the most part, you eat lean meats and vegetables with some grains such as brown rice or quinoa.
I have now been on the diet for eight weeks, and I must admit that I feel great! I have noticed increased energy levels and I also just feel better overall. Most importantly to me, I have been able to sleep better than I ever have in my life.
Whether you are looking to lose a few extra pounds, or you are just looking to have a healthier diet, I would recommend that you consider JJ Virgin’s Sugar Impact Diet.
